3126_What’s New in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

SUSE Enterprise Server 12 is available and includes huge performance and usability improvements for the modern data center (https://www.suse.com/releasenotes/x86_64/SUSE-SLES/12/).

Highlights of this new version include:
  • New supplementary packages including tools for Web Development and Scripting, Cloud management and Advanced Systems Management.
  • Linux Containers are integrated into the virtualization management infrastructure (lib-virt). Docker is provided as a technology preview.
  • New core management tools like systemd (replacing the time honored System V based init process) and wicked (introducing a modern, dynamic network configuration infrastructure).
  • Support for the open-vm-tools together with VMware for better integration into VMware based hypervisor environments.
  • Btrfs is now the default file system. It includes snapshoting and link to Grub2. Transparent full system rollback also available.
